Recruitment opportunity for a visionary leader
Muskegon County is experiencing an exciting period of growth, earning recognition for its revitalization efforts and working diligently to become a premier destination for businesses, residents, and visitors alike.
As the county’s leading private-public economic development organization, Greater Muskegon Economic Development is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer.
GMED seeks to build strong collaborative relationships among private and public partners as we collectively identify and implement an economic vision to guide Muskegon through the next several decades. Our CEO serves as the key liaison for a business-focused platform that includes local businesses, civic leaders, developers, educational institutions, and the broader community.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for Chief Executive Officer is $135,000-$150,000 annually. The final salary offered will consider the candidate’s experience and qualifications. GMED offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Marketing/Communications Intern
- Status: 24 hours/week
- Pay rate: $15/hour

About Us:
Greater Muskegon Economic Development (GMED) was founded in 1999 and is Muskegon County’s economic development agency dedicated to supporting local business. GMED’s focus is to leverage public and private investment to accelerate business growth and the creation of high-quality employment opportunities in Muskegon County. Appreciating the importance of our local business community, GMED serves as a clearinghouse of information on programs and incentives available to businesses throughout West Michigan. Position Summary:
This position will play an active role on GMED’s team. They will be responsible for assisting the team with grant writing and research, implementing the organization’s marketing and communications strategy, and helping in the management of the team’s customer relationship management (CRM) system. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hand-on professional experience working on a variety of interrelated efforts in a non-profit environment, including social media, marketing, grant writing, and market research. There is an opportunity for other responsibilities to be developed based on the selected candidate’s strengths and interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Social media: Work alongside the team to execute the organization’s social media strategy, using LinkedIn and Facebook, and create social media graphics using Canva.
- Email marketing: Assist with creating and sending out monthly newsletters, investor spotlights, and event promotions.
- Events: Support the marketing and execution of events as needed. Assist with creating social media posts and related media advertisement for various GMED events. Some events may require work outside of normal business hours.
- Public relations: Assist with the organization’s efforts to promote press releases, assist with first drafts, writing quotes, sharing press releases on the website, e-blasts, and social media.
- Grant writing: Assist in the research and writing of first drafts of various funding and community development grant applications on behalf of GMRD, under the direction of the Grants & Programs Manager.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled and pursuing, or recently graduated with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public administration, communications, or other related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects and conduct necessary research in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office
- Mobile transportation is required

Schedule & Pay:

- 24 hours a week scheduled in-office, between the hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday
