Greater Muskegon Economic Development President Departs, Organization Poised for Continued Success
Muskegon, MI – Greater Muskegon Economic Development (GMED) announced today that Marla Schneider is stepping down as President and CEO, embarking on a new chapter in her career as the President and CEO of Cornerstone Alliance, located in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Her last day at GMED will be January 3, 2025.
Schneider, who has led the organization since June 2022, leaves behind a remarkable track record of success. During her tenure, GMED played a pivotal role in creating over 560 new jobs and facilitating $915.8 million in new investments in Muskegon County.
“Marla’s leadership has been instrumental in driving GMED’s success,” said Rich Houtteman, Chair of the GMED Board of Directors. “Her vision and commitment have strengthened the organization and positioned it for continued growth. We are incredibly grateful for her contributions and wish her all the best at Cornerstone Alliance.”
Serving as Muskegon County’s economic development organization, GMED has spearheaded impactful projects such as the downtown redevelopment efforts in Muskegon Heights, the attraction and investment of new companies like Cytiva, and supporting numerous local business expansions. These initiatives have significantly contributed to the economic vitality of Muskegon County.

Current staff & board will support GMED during the search for its next President and CEO. The organization is committed to finding a leader who will build upon the strong foundation and continue to champion economic and community development in Muskegon County.
