ICS Data: Securing Muskegon County’s Future Through Compliance and Connection

For over 30 years, Norton Shores–based ICS Data has been a trusted technology partner for businesses across West Michigan, offering everything from cloud services and networking to advanced cybersecurity and compliance solutions.

What sets ICS apart isn’t just what they do — it’s the way they do it: with integrity, continuous improvement, and a passion for problem-solving.

Built on Service, Evolving Through Compliance

Founded in Spring Lake and later relocating to Norton Shores, ICS has grown alongside the needs of its clients. Over the last five years, the company has standardized its security stack and expanded its expertise in industry compliance — especially helping manufacturers meet CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) standards required for the defense industrial base.

ICS is the only Lakeshore-area company selected for the CyberSmart Grant program, which provided up to $22,500 to help manufacturers achieve CMMC compliance. Chief Information Officer Rick Tice, says, “Things are moving quickly in the CMMC world. We’re getting our clients geared up for what’s coming.”

This work not only protects sensitive information but also ensures local manufacturers can grow and compete in a rapidly changing market.

A Community-Driven Approach

ICS is proud to call Muskegon County home. For Tice, the reason is simple: the people, the diversity, and the strong manufacturing base. “I love how much manufacturing is in Muskegon County,” he says. “I enjoy visiting local businesses and learning how they do things. It’s an area that’s beautiful and interesting at the same time.”

While ICS has always prioritized service over sales, the team is now focused on growth — and sees GMED as part of that strategy.

Partnering with GMED for Connection and Growth

By investing in Greater Muskegon Economic Development (GMED), ICS aims to strengthen community ties and better understand regional business needs. “We’d like to know our neighbors,” says Tice. “We want to learn more about what they do and how we can help them reach their goals.”

GMED has also connected ICS to cybersecurity resources like the CyberSmart grant and local partners such as West Michigan APEX, which works on Department of Defense compliance.

Business Development & Product Strategist Amber Ponce sees a direct link between economic growth and cybersecurity. “When local businesses are growing, it’s easier for them to invest in strong security,” she says. “Our goals align with economic development — we want to see the community thrive.”

A Team Grounded in Shared Value

At the core of ICS’s culture are six guiding values: Respect, Passion for Problem Solving, Integrity, Continuous Improvement, Be your own Customer, and Invest in Individuals. These values shape everything they do — from client relationships to community involvement.

After three decades in business, ICS remains committed to protecting local companies, empowering manufacturers, and strengthening Muskegon County’s economy. For ICS, that alignment is critical — because strong communities create strong companies, and ICS is dedicated to helping both thrive.
