La Colombe to Break Ground on Transformational Expansion Project in Norton Shores
Muskegon County, MI – Greater Muskegon Economic Development (GMED) is proud to announce that La Colombe, part of the Chobani family of brands, will officially break ground on its transformational expansion project in the City of Norton Shores on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks a major milestone for the $567 million investment, one of the largest economic development projects in Muskegon County history. The expansion is expected to create nearly 340 new jobs while strengthening West Michigan’s growing food and beverage manufacturing sector.
“This groundbreaking represents years of collaboration and planning to bring a project of this scale to life,” said GMED President & CEO Trevor Friedeberg. “La Colombe and Chobani’s investment is a tremendous vote of confidence in Norton Shores, Muskegon County, and Michigan. Our region continues to prove it has the infrastructure, workforce, and community partnerships needed to support world-class manufacturing growth.”
The project will significantly expand La Colombe’s existing Norton Shores facility, adding approximately 200,000 square feet to support increased production of the company’s signature ready-to-drink lattes. The facility will operate as a large-scale, 24/7 production hub serving growing national demand.
La Colombe has operated in Norton Shores for more than a decade and became part of Chobani in 2023 as the company expanded into the ready-to-drink coffee market.
The expansion is also expected to generate substantial economic impact across the regional supply chain, increasing demand for dairy production, transportation, packaging, and related industries throughout West Michigan and the state.
To support the project, state and local partners are advancing significant infrastructure improvements, including upgrades to water, wastewater, and treatment capacity that will not only serve the facility’s expansion but also unlock future economic growth opportunities throughout the region.
